Reading

Today in reading, I'm going to have you do something a little different. Watch the following video that is being taught by another reading teacher who loves reading. Her name is Mrs. Smekens. She is going to talk a little about what she does when she's reading something for the first time and wants to remember the information. After watching the video, try her note taking technique when you listen to A Long Walk to Water.

And now for A Long Walk to Water...

Vocabulary

Today you will take your quiz. After you have studied and feel ready to go, you will login to your Google Chrome account, find the nine dots in the top right corner, click on google classroom, and go to your Word Study class. Click on assignments, and you will find your quiz. It's multiple choice, and you need to complete the quiz without using the vocabulary log. I know you'll do a great job. Good luck! smiley

Grammar/Writing

Hey friends!! I was able to glance at some of the sentences you wrote yesteray. Most of them looked great, but I did see a few friends that didn't quite use appositives correctly. Remember, an appositive is a word or phrase that tells you more about another noun in the sentence. You can take the appositive out of your sentence, and it should still make sense. It is almost like an interruption in your sentence that provides more information.

For today's assignment, go to your Google doc and respond to the following prompt. Make sure to write at least 5-7 sentences, include an appositive somewhere in your writing, and give me detail!

  • If you were stuck on a deserted island for a week, what would you do to survive? You may have 1 other person with you, but you don't have a cell phone, computer, or any form of technological communication with civilization.

Spelling

Practice your words in any way that helps your learn them. Remember, your test is on Thursday!

Social Studies/Bible

Go to Google classroom for your assignment on Digital Etiquette.

Special Classes

Technology

Due to your half day Friday, we will wait until after Spring Break to create the video.  If you want to go ahead with the video, go to Google Classroom.  A copy of instructions for using Spark Video is attached to the assignment.

The video will be due Friday, April 17. The final video will be shared with the fifth grade teachers.  For questions, please contact Mrs. Sauers at kays@lcalions.com

PE

Roll a task brain break. Roll a die to see what activity you have to complete. This is a great to do when your brain needs a break from your school work. Try rolling the die 5 times and do each activity you roll.

Art

Hello Fifth grade!

Can you believe we are already into the third week of distance learning!? How are YOU? I hope you are enjoying your time at home, AND appreciating your parents who are working so hard to make sure your learning continues, even during these weird days of being away from school.

I have a new art lesson opportunity for you...Remember the link is;

The name of this lesson is "Texture on Ordinary Objects"... There are four videos to this lesson. Watch the Introduction to Texture on Ordinary Objects first and then Parts 2, 3, and 4. It will make more sense this way. I will go ahead and give you permission to laugh AT, and WITH, me as you view my video-taking skills! haha! I will hear laughter from all around Loganville once you guys start viewing this lesson.....anyway, I hope you have fun with it. It isn't an easy one, I will go ahead and tell you. It will take some time, so take your time with it. Do not expect to complete it in one or two days, TEXTURE is just doodling, but it is very intentional, so to do it right it should take some time. You can easily use a pencil, a black marker, or a black ink pen if you don't have a Sharpie marker at home to create your texture.

How are your 3 minute drawings coming? I must confess I have not drawn a third one yet, but I hope to get to it by Wednesday.

Please remember nothing is required. The lessons I offer to you are just enrichment, but I do hope you try this lesson. I think you will enjoy making ordinary things look different as you recreate them with odd textured surfaces.

I love seeing your drawings and all your creations!

Please keep sharing pics of them with me.

You guys are awesome and you are loved!
